The Chocolate Collage

Thanks to everyone who has spent the past several months eating chocolate and giving me the wrappers! I have finally finished the cacao orchard collage, made entirely from chocolate wrappers. It is 36x36 inches, 1.5 inches deep, ready to hang and sealed with a UV protective medium. I am still working up an idea for a title. Any thoughts? The piece is listed for $1125 and will be on display tonight at Cashmere in Raleigh.

Upcoming Events

What: The Autumn Arts Festival
Where: Historic Downtown Wake Forest, NC
When: 10 - 5, Saturday, October 10, 2009

I will have a tent at this festival. I participated in it last year and it is a really great festival. Plus, it's in my own town, just blocks from my house, so I enjoy getting to see my neighbors and meet other Wake Forest art lovers! Here's a link to the Autumn Arts Festival Website: http://www.wakeforestnc.gov/wfculturalarts_autumnartsfestival.aspx

Sold!

I participated in an outdoor art festival over the summer where I sold this piece ("Bittersweet") to a High Point native. He bought it as a gift for his wife. This piece is mixed media and was created using sculpted fabric, batik, acrylics, wire and beads.

Here are some of my newest photographs. I took these with a 10 mp digital camera. I also enhanced some of them using photo editing software. They are printed to a 8 x 10 and matted using conservation quality materials to a 11 x 14 size. They are ready for framing in a standard sized frame. I took most of these photos on a recent vacation in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, although, a few of them are from nearby areas in North Carolina.

About the Artist

I am a North Carolina native and live in the Triangle, teaching art in Durham. I graduated from NC State with a BA in Visual Arts Applications and Minor in Business Management. My two passions are volunteer work and art, so being an art teacher fulfills both of those! (Let's face it, it's pretty much volunteer pay!) In my free time, I love creating art, both by request and on my own. I make batik as fine art (almost like a watercolor) and I paint in acrylics. I also make mixed media that combines batik, acrylic, and components inspired by my jewelry making days. I offer private and small group lessons after school and during the summers. I am talented at explaining challenging and diverse art techniques to budding artists. Last year, I participated in the Wake Forest Autumn Arts Festival and this year I plan on participating in several additional arts and craft shows in the area. I will post my art show schedule as I hear of opportunities.
